Quick Meals For People On The Go!

I bought these quick "Thai meals" on pouches when I went to TESCO Lotus at Chantaburi Thailand last July.  I was actually hesitant to buy some at first since I'm not so sure if I would appreciate the taste.  Thai dishes are spicy and flavorful.  A lot of Filipinos working in Cambodia and Thailand are having difficulty eating spicy foods as people here loves to eat everything that's cooked with chili. For me, it's not much of a problem.  The truth is, even before I come to Cambodia, I used to eat spicy foods already back home.  My Mom is a "Bicolana" and I grew up eating spicy dishes that my Mom used to prepare at home.  In fact, the locals here are quite amazed that I can eat spicy foods.  According to them, a lot of Filipinos that they knew cannot eat spicy foods.

In fairness, Thai dishes are yummy and I don't have much problem with their foods.  In fact, compared to Vietnam, Thailand's food  products are much similar to ours.  The last time I shop at TESCO Lotus, I saw a lot of goods in the food section that are similar to what are being sold in our super markets.  They also have chicharon, danggit, dried squid, shrimp paste (bagoong), siomai, spring rolls, "dilis" and a lot more.  I bought some quick meals in pouches, as shown above not only because I want to try their dishes but also because I can have these foods instantly whenever I don't have time to cook.  So far, I have finished all already.  True to what I expect, these dishes are really spicy and not all Filipinos can take it.  But, the taste is good.  It only costs THB20 per pouch which is equivalent to around PHP30.  Not bad, huh?

Of course nothing can beat the taste of a freshly cooked meal and I would still prefer the latter over the quick meals in pouches readily sold at the Super Markets, but to have a few in stock would save you time when you really need to go quickly to work and haven't eaten anything yet.   So, I decided that I would still get a few  the next time I go for grocery shopping.

How about you? What sort of "quick meals" do you keep at home?

  1. Yes, it won't hurt to have ready to eat food pouches like those. It's a hit or miss though, sometimes they taste good, sometimes they don't.

  6. Uy like Lainy and u, both of my parents are Bicolanos so, Bicolana ako buong buo, walang bawas. LOL. Pero hindi ako gaano mahilig sa spicy lalo na kung super. Kung tama lang yung anghang pwede. Mahina ang tolerance ko sa anghang.

About instant foods like this, yes very helpful kapag talaga walang time magluto. Pero hinay hinay din at masama ang laging sobra lalo't mahirap na magkasakit.

Please come hop to my blogs. Miss na nila kayong lahat. ;)

  7. I stock up on biscuits...rarely na yung noodles because of too high salt content. Sometimes when I'm craving, I cheat pero bihira. That stir fried chicken with chili and basil looks inviting. I like spicy foods too. :-) In fact, cayenne (siling labuyo ba yun?) is good for dilating the blood vessels, I think...so less pressure sa veins. :-)

  27. We always add ready to eat foods in pouches as well for emergencies, when we're lazy and we just don't feel like cooking. Hahaha.. In my opinion, it's not really a bad thing to eat once in a while, just not eberyday, because ready to eat food have lots of preservatives, even if they say none... A good choice also for healthier options are the tuna varieties..
